Company’s Duties to Employees as to Criminal Background Checks.

In a suit against Home Depot, an employee sued after being fired when his employe performed an investigation as to the employee’s alleged misconduct.
  The fired employee claimed the company’s criminal background investigation was wrong and the company slandered him by saying he had committed crimes, when he had not, and said so in front of other employees.
  After much litigation, the Court nevertheless denied liability for slander as the erroneous statements were privileged as only employees that “reasonably needed to know” were told.
